Q&A with multi-Michelin star Chef, Jean-Christophe Novelli
Jean-Christophe Novelli, multi-Michelin star and 5/5 AA Rosette winning Chef, Author, and Restaurateur will be hosting an exclusive one-off dinner in Twickenham's luxurious East Wing on Thursday 7 July 2022.
Ahead of An Evening of Summer Dining with Jean-Christophe Novelli, we've discussed Jean-Christophe's culinary inspirations, favourite dishes, dream dinner guest and much more, through a Q&A with the man himself.
Where did your passion for cooking come from?
From a very young age I used to spend time cooking with my grandmother and mother. I loved being in the house and watching them create many different dishes, the smell of homemade cooking used to fill the house. I was fascinated from a very young age at how they used to create the best meals from very little ingredients. I knew then I wanted to cook.
Did you have any culinary idols growing up?
There are many people I admire. Out of everyone I have to say Keith Floyd.
How would you describe your culinary style for guests that have not experienced your cooking before?
My style has changed dramatically over the years. Back in my younger days the food was much richer. Since having my children I have been a lot more aware of cooking with less salt, saturated fat and sugar without compromising on flavour. In my cookery school we still cook many French classics such as Coq Au Vin and Tarte Tatin, but I have added the useful twist of making these much more healthy over the years.
What is your drink of choice?
I don't actually drink alcohol, but I used to enjoy Michel Arnould Champagne and also Spice Route Merlot, a South African wine. Or a nice glass of full fat organic milk.
Who is your dream dinner guest?
Donna Summer. Her music never failed to put a smile on my face when I was a child.
Have you ever been to Twickenham before, and if so, what is your favourite memory of the stadium?
Yes, I have been to Twickenham for an England v France rugby match. It gave me an idea of what a modern colosseum is all about. I am very much looking forward to returning.
