Player Profile: Jonny May
Jonny May is a former England international winger, renowned for his blistering pace and finishing ability. Born on April 1 1990, in Wiltshire, he began his professional career at Gloucester Rugby, where he became a standout performer before a move to Leicester Tigers in 2017. He returned to Gloucester in 2020 and went on to make 191 appearances for the club, scoring 73 tries. In 2024, he signed with French Pro D2 side Soyaux Angoulême.
May made his England debut in 2013 against Argentina and quickly established himself as a key figure on the wing. Over a decade-long international career, he earned 78 caps and scored 36 tries-making him England's second all-time leading try scorer behind Rory Underwood. He featured in two Rugby World Cups, however was a part of three Rugby World Cup squads, reaching the final in 2019 and finishing third in 2023. He was also part of England's Six Nations-winning teams in 2017 and 2020, and the Autumn Nations Cup-winning squad in 2020.
Known for his speed, agility, and work rate, Jonny May was one of the most exciting players of his generation. He retired from international rugby in 2023 after a distinguished career at the highest level.
