HSBC London Sevens cancelled
The RFU can confirm the cancellation of HSBC London Sevens as a result of the global COVID-19 pandemic.
Originally scheduled to take place at Twickenham Stadium on 23/24 May 2020, the event was provisionally postponed by World Rugby until September but has now been cancelled, along with the remaining rounds of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series 2020.
The 2019/20 women's Sevens Series tournament in Langford and the
combined Sevens Series in Paris have also been cancelled as well as
Hong Kong and Singapore Sevens.
The early conclusion of the season means England men finish fifth
and England women finish eighth due to the standings after the
rounds that were successfully completed prior to the onset of the
COVID-19 pandemic.
The HSBC World Rugby Challenger Series men's and women's final
events will also not take place in 2020.
These decisions follow detailed and constructive dialogue by World
Rugby with the host and participating unions, and have been taken
with the health and wellbeing of the rugby community and the wider
public as top priority, and in line with the relevant national
government and public health authority advice.
Further information on the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series 2021 will follow in due course.
